rose

∴ on scattered rose-covered paths i wander|
towards each new inviting portal, i tread
though storms and tears may wash them away |
new petals will fall, and new paths i’ll roam again ∴

obsidian and alabaster

∴ wrapped in her cloak of nocturne
she exudes obsidian and alabaster hues
guiding the night, commanding the moon
with daybreak, she diminishes into shadow ∴1

  1. Tied for 2nd Place in Writers Around the World’s “Prompt Challenge” on March 23, 2024. Most of what you will find on my pages is just written for creative fun, so I am not in the habit of submitting. However, I am grateful and excited to have been chosen among so many great writers! ↩︎

train

∴ thought-train
billowing clouds
engine hisses
leaving the station
chugging along
resolute whistle

carrying
railway dreams
waving through
sun-amber
tinted windows
at precisely
the approximate
turnaround time
when the clock
strikes
go ∴

color

∴ urban sprawl
vibrant hues define
shades mingle
in joyful display
colors blend
a lively fray
golden mornings
greet the new day ∴

fireflies

∴ in a dimly lit
neck of the woods
fireflies emblaze
notes on the night
a luminescent score

frog on vibraphone
leaps rhythmic
setting the tone

the alto saxophone’s
silky and eerie croons,
its melody carried
by the soul of owl

foxes’ electric guitar bends
with subdued, trebly flare

but then
the beat begins to stumble

wait
the drummer?
where did he go?

ah, there’s raccoon
behind the club
in the trash
… again ∴1

  1. raccoons are opportunistic and not dirty animals ↩︎
